Climate change is the single most pressing issue we face today. Creating a sustainable future has to be a top consideration in every aspect of city government. We can do our part by:
- Designing and building public works projects with an eye toward environmental sustainability
- Requiring businesses to demonstrate a commitment to environmental stewardship before granting them financial incentives
- Creating and protecting pollinator habitat by using native perennial plantings around city-owned buildings
- Encouraging in-fill development to protect green spaces and promote walking and biking
Greenfield was the first community to be designated a Green Community in 2010 and we need to live up to that designation.
- Reducing our carbon footprint by fully transitioning to renewable energy sources throughout the city
- Working with FRCOG and the state to increase public transportation options
- Incorporating on-site renewable energy systems into city-owned infrastructure, such as micro-hydro or solar panels
